Background-
Netherlands-based Triodos Bank has appointed Lauren Couch to lead its business banking operations in the UK. Couch stepped into the role of head of business banking at Triodos Bank UK earlier this month, bringing 25 years of industry experience to the position.
Her new remit covers relationship and portfolio management, sales performance, pipeline strategy, and sector development across the bank’s five key lending areas of energy, food, society, wellbeing, and nature and resources.
Triodos has operated since 1980 with a focus on impact finance, using retail deposits to support businesses that aim to generate measurable social or environmental benefits. Former HSBC executive Mark Clayton serves as the bank’s UK CEO.
Couch spent much of her career working across debt and asset-based lending at RBS, and also served as revenue chief at SME lender Growth Lending. She previously took up the role of head of asset-based lending at Aldermore Bank in September 2025 before moving to Triodos.
Alongside her banking career, Couch continues as a non-executive director at Bristol and Bath Regional Capital and a trustee of Quartet Community Foundation.
Triodos said it plans to draw on her experience to develop products in areas including sustainable property, nature-based solutions, and environmental technology, as the bank builds on strong growth in sectors such as healthcare and nature-based investment.
Triodos recently reported a return to net profitability of €29.9 million in its half-year results, supported by €666 million in new business lending, reflecting continued momentum for the bank’s impact-driven model.
