Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked India’s automobile makers to think bigger about global markets, pointing to the country’s growing infrastructure, manufacturing base and new trade deals as tools they can use in this next stage of growth. The industry, he said, is entering a phase shaped by newer technology and a push toward cleaner mobility.
Modi made these remarks at the annual convention of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). He noted that India’s economy is expanding quickly, and that alone is pushing up demand for vehicles and transport. At the same time, better highways and logistics are lowering costs for manufacturers and making them more competitive.
Recent Free Trade Agreements, he added, give Indian carmakers a real chance to grow their footprint overseas, especially since the industry already has a name for itself in several international markets.
He also gave credit to government reforms such as cutting old laws and unnecessary compliance rules, along with schemes like Production Linked Incentive (PLI) and Make in India, for giving manufacturers a stronger base to build on.
Turning to electric vehicles, Modi said the growth of charging infrastructure is helping more people switch to EVs and opening room for fresh innovation. He described the wider mobility sector as being reshaped by energy efficiency, diversification and advanced technology.
He closed by urging carmakers to keep innovating and aim for excellence, tying this effort to India’s “Viksit Bharat” vision and calling transport a key pillar of the country’s development.
