AgniKul Cosmos, a space technology start- up grounded in Chennai, has created a new standard in aerospace engineering by developing the world’s largest single- piece 3D- published rocket machine. The machine is constructed entirely of Inconel, a superalloy of nickel- chromium with high erosion and heat resistance, and published from energy bay to premium exit in one integrated piece, barring welds, joints, and fasteners dramatically reducing points of failure and ease manufacturing as well.

With a diameter of nearly one meter, the engine is able to withstand rocket launches’ high temperatures and high pressures. Cycle length and complexity are minimized by over 60% through AgniKul’s production line. Hence, the production process becomes cheaper and more reliable. The innovation has earned a US patent, recognizing both the design’s scope and manufacturing complexity.

This feat follows yet another milestone of the firm—India’s first semi-cryogenic rocket engine with electric motor drive on liquid oxygen and refined kerosene as fuels. Unlike traditional turbopump and gas generator-based configurations, the engine employs electric motors to provide better thrust control, efficiency, and lesser environmental cost.

Agnibaan, a next-generation small-satellite launch vehicle of AgniKul, is being developed using the company’s new single-piece 3D-printed engine patented as a future core propulsion system. The startup places itself in the driver’s seat of additive manufacturing in space technology, not just in India but globally.

AgniKul is being supported by the developing Indian private space ecosystem and facilitation by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), IN-SPACe, and Department of Science & Technology. These advancements reflect the company’s intent towards developing next-gen aerospace solutions and advancing India’s presence in the global space industry.
