Background-
Microsoft Vice President for Southern Europe Charles Calestroupat says organizations earn the strongest AI returns when they tie their projects to business outcomes. He shared the view in an interview with Finance.si at Slovenia’s NT Conference, where he explained how companies can turn AI spending into measurable value.
Research he cited shows companies that weave AI into key business processes report strong returns. Firms using tools such as Microsoft Copilot also see gains in productivity, customer engagement and sales. Those gains show AI delivers value when it supports core operations.
Calestroupat said successful AI transformation centers on four areas: faster innovation, better employee experience, more personalized customer interactions and redesigned business processes.
He called governance a key differentiator and listed leadership adoption, clear business goals, performance metrics, security and compliance controls, and ongoing employee training.
On cloud and digital sovereignty, he said organizations get the same Microsoft cloud capabilities whether or not a local cloud region exists in their country. He pointed to Microsoft’s continued investment in European infrastructure, cybersecurity and data protection, including the EU Data Boundary.
He said responsibility for AI is shared. Microsoft secures the platform, while customers decide how they deploy AI systems and agents, so human oversight stays essential.
Calestroupat also renewed Microsoft’s commitment to Europe through investment in technology, partners, cybersecurity expertise and digital skills. He added that thousands of models on its platforms, plus partnerships with firms such as OpenAI, give customers choice.
