Background:

EssilorLuxottica has reported a strong increase in sales of its Meta-powered smart glasses, marking an important step for the wearable technology market. In its fourth-quarter results, the Ray-Ban maker said it sold more than 7 million smart glasses in 2025, more than tripling its earlier performance.

This is a major rise compared to the total 2 million units sold across 2023 and 2024 combined. The sales include smart glasses sold under both the Ray-Ban and Oakley brands. Oakley launched its smart glasses in June, expanding into the performance eyewear market. Company executives credited the success to the strength of their globally recognized brands and growing awareness of AI-enabled products.

“Our progress in wearables is helping accelerate the AI glasses movement, with our iconic brands driving strong consumer demand,” the company said in a statement accompanying its results.

EssilorLuxottica has been working with Meta on smart eyewear technology since 2019. The first version launched in 2021, but the 2023 second version greatly increased interest and sales. In September, the companies introduced a new Ray-Ban version featuring gesture controls and neural interface technology. The updated model includes a small in-lens display and carries a retail price of $799.

Demand for the glasses has been especially strong in the United States. Meta has postponed the international launch of its Ray-Ban Display glasses, which were originally planned for early 2026, due to very high demand in the U.S.

The two companies plan to raise production to at least 20 million units this year to meet demand. Meta has also extended its partnership with EssilorLuxottica for the next decade.

Strong sales show smart glasses are growing in popularity, strengthening both companies’ position in the market.
