Background-

ASEAN Secretary-General Dr. Kao Kim Hourn met the Chairman of the Russia-ASEAN Business Council, Ivan Polyakov, and other members of the Russian business community in Moscow to explore ways of deepening economic and business ties between the bloc and Russia.

The talks took place on the sidelines of his working visit to Russia. Both sides shared views on ways to widen trade and investment, with a focus on energy, food security and agriculture, supply-chain connectivity and digital transformation.

The two sides looked at ways to build on the private-sector links already in place. They considered holding business missions more often, arranging business matching sessions and forming investment partnerships that deliver tangible commercial results for ASEAN and Russian companies.

The meeting placed the private sector at the center of ASEAN-Russia engagement. Energy, food security, supply chains and digital transformation top the agenda because both ASEAN and Russian firms want progress in these areas. Regular business missions give companies a direct way to meet partners, compare plans and move ideas toward real projects.

Business matching helps firms find the right counterparts, while investment partnerships allow them to share resources and pursue larger opportunities together. By backing these tools, ASEAN and Russian business leaders aim to turn conversations into lasting commercial links.

The Secretary-General’s working visit gives ASEAN a platform to strengthen practical channels for trade, investment and cooperation with Russian partners across the wider business community.
