Background
Intelligence, the company behind AI evaluation platform Design Arena, has raised a $7.9 million seed round led by Index Ventures, with participation from Conviction, A*, Valkyrie and others, the company announced this week.
Design Arena, now used by 5.3 million people globally, began as a side project when co-founder Grace Li and a group of college friends were building an AI game engine a few weeks before their 2025 graduation. Their models produced functional games that lacked fun, prompting the team to explore how human judgment could be measured at scale. That effort evolved into a platform offering instant human feedback to AI companies.
For individual users, Design Arena functions like a model router, letting people submit prompts across formats such as websites and images, then rank outputs through a series of head-to-head comparisons. The platform’s real value, however, lies on the enterprise side, where AI labs use it as a continuous source of human evaluation data to improve their models. Li noted that users are generally indifferent to which model produced an output, focusing instead on quality, which makes their rankings valuable signals for developers.
The company said the platform currently generates $60 million in annual recurring revenue. Because users must log in, Intelligence can also track shifting design preferences across regions, offering a check against automated benchmarks that can be manipulated. The sector remains uneven, however, as rival platform Yupp shut down earlier this year despite raising $33 million, while competitor LM Arena raised $150 million in January.
