Background
MKS Inc. has inaugurated its Supercenter Factory in Penang, Malaysia, having invested over MYR 400 million ($96.3 million) in its establishment, thus contributing to Malaysia’s prowess in manufacturing and semiconductors.
This plant occupies a land area of 17 acres, with a total build-up area of about 350,000 square feet. This will help meet the rising demands of wafer fabrication machinery used in the manufacturing of semiconductors. The first phase of the project has been completed, while further development will continue in multiple stages.
Once fully completed, the factory is expected to create more than 1,000 jobs. Authorities said the project aligns with Malaysia’s New Industrial Master Plan 2030 and National Semiconductor Strategy, which aim to attract high-value investments and strengthen the nation’s industrial capabilities.
Officials noted that the investment highlights Penang’s role as a major hub for advanced manufacturing and semiconductor innovation. They said the state’s skilled workforce, established industrial ecosystem, and infrastructure continue to attract global technology companies.
MIDA said the investment reflects a broader shift toward higher-value manufacturing and technology-driven activities in Malaysia. The agency added that the project is expected to strengthen domestic supply chains, support talent development and create opportunities for local companies to participate in higher-value segments of the industry.
MKS said the new facility will improve its ability to serve customers and partners while expanding the delivery of advanced semiconductor manufacturing solutions. The company added that the investment demonstrates confidence in Malaysia’s industrial ecosystem and workforce.
The project is expected to support supply chain resilience, enhance advanced manufacturing capabilities and contribute to long-term industrial growth in Malaysia.
